Police believe Derron Hernandez was murdered over an altercation

By BBN Staff: Twenty-three-year-old Derron Hernandez was shot and killed at his home last night, and police believe it may be the result of a previous altercation with his attacker.

Hernandez was at his Raccoon Street Extension home when around 6:30 p.m. someone entered his yard and called out to him. When he responded, the person fired a single, fatal shot.

Director of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that initial investigations revealed he had an altercation with his suspected killer the day before the incident.

“We have detained persons, and we believe that these people if they shed some information that it could help us in making an arrest…” Yearwood said.

Yearwood said that investigators are following several other leads with the view of gathering enough evidence to be able to charge the person responsible for Hernandez’s murder.
