New COVID cases jump by 100 in 24 hours but no new deaths were reported

Posted: Wednesday, December 29, 2021. 6:59 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: There appears to be a post-Christmas COVID-related fallout from all the holiday travel and some revelry.

The number of new COVID-19 cases increased by 102 from the weekend report on Monday with 333 new cases reported countrywide.

Just 19 persons were deemed recovered, sending the number of active cases to 887 with 136 samples under investigation.

There is no indication of what types of variants of COVID-19 these cases have been classed as, prompting immediate speculation that the Omicron variant has come to Belize.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving Belize at 597 deaths caused by the pandemic.

Belize has now passed 32 thousand confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, with more than 30 thousand recovered.
