COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU patients rising, especially among fully vaccinated persons

By Aaron Humes: 14 persons are now hospitalized with COVID-19 as of today, Thursday, up three from Wednesday.

Of these, five are unvaccinated; one partially vaccinated; and eight fully vaccinated. Full vaccination as determined by the Ministry is having had both initial shots (or one of a Janssen vaccine) and had no or few side effects for at least two weeks.

Meanwhile, four persons among these nine are in the intensive care unit, up one from Wednesday.

One patient is unvaccinated and three are fully vaccinated.

Belizeans are reminded to get their vaccinations whether first or second dose, or booster shots if they have both, as the vaccine remains the best chance of recovery from COVID depending on the level of infection and presence of risk factors for non-communicable diseases and other comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension.
