By Aaron Humes: “Positive” is not a good thing in the case of COVID-19 and patients of general practitioner Dr. Shanna Pott of Belize Healthcare Partners Limited, a private hospital in Belize City.
She issued a public statement asking if parties and gatherings – officially still illegal under the COVID-19 public health regulations – are still worth it to those planning them.
She suspects that those cases she is seeing during a long and exhausting day are of the Omicron variant, though this is yet to be officially confirmed.
“We still have a good many of our vulnerable citizens who are at risk of developing severe illness and requiring hospitalization. We still have a large group of the population including our children who are not vaccinated and we have our economy to consider as we cannot afford a lockdown! My advice is play it safe and behave the way you initially did when we were all still afraid of Covid!” she wrote.
She continued, “The Government shouldn’t even have to tell us what to do at this point and we don’t need to wait for the restrictions! We just need to do what is best for us and our families!”
And she further advised if you have even the slightest symptoms or been in contact with someone who tested positive, be sure to get tested immediately so that you know what to do to stop the spread.
Dr Pott concluded, “Covid 19 is real and it is a killer! All of us here are fortunate to be spared so far! Let’s continue doing our part! And most importantly if you’re not vaccinated; go out and get vaccinated! The vaccine saves lives!”
