By Aaron Humes: The daily COVID-19 heat map is especially glowing today in the center of the country.
Belize City and the satellite villages of Ladyville and Caye Caulker are especially hard hit. The Old Capital added 161 new cases, Ladyville 29 and Caye Caulker 23, along with villages on both major highways. San Pedro Town added another 34 cases.
The West saw 70 new cases including 18 in Belmopan (16 in the Capital proper, two in Salvapan); 27 between San Ignacio and Santa Elena and ten in Benque Viejo.
Orange Walk Town reported 20 of 27 new cases, an added worry amid the sugar impasse; Corozal had just eight new cases including five in Corozal Town.
Down south, Hopkins had 13 of 29 new cases in the Stann Creek District; Dangriga seven; Placencia six; and Independence three. Punta Gorda Town added six of eight new cases in the Toledo District.
Mainland Belize District has now reported 10,078 cases, approximately one-third of all reported during the pandemic.
