By Aaron Humes: Despite the challenges, Prime Minister John Briceno says he believes breathing space has been achieved to fulfill more of the promises made in the #planBelize which swept his party to power in November of 2020.
Already, housing units are being constructed and targeted for distribution in 2022, and the work of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing with road and bridge building will continue.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources has handed over 5,338 leases and purchases and 6,943 titles in 2021, and in 2022 anticipates the handing over of 7,500 new lots to first-time land owners,” the Prime Minister reported.
In the area of investment, “bountiful dividends” will flow from November’s Investment Summit, which is projected to produce up to an estimated one billion dollars in foreign direct investment between 2022 and 2025 as well as an estimated 15 thousand new jobs, according to the Prime Minister: “This will be significantly complemented with the mobilization and injection of local investment incentivized by the interest shown at the Investment Summit and the acceptance by the private sector of a new enabling environment being created.”
In the area of public safety, 220 new police officers hit the beat in December, dedicated to new ways and means of fighting crime and promoting reform and targeting the youth, elderly and those most-at-risk, and incorporating the social partners.
The Prime Minister concluded, “The dreams we share, the values that draw us together, have never been more crucial to our national objectives. May this New Year bless this land and her remarkable people with peace, prosperity, health and wholeness, and with the guidance of our Creator, may 2022 be a successful year.”
