By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Thirty-nine runners have signed up for Total Time Belize’s New Year’s Day 10K runners’ appreciation race which starts at 6:00 a.m. in Burrell Boom on Saturday.
Ricardo Salazar of Total Time Belize said 20 men and 19 women will compete in the first race of 2022. He is organizing the race in appreciation of the support runners have given him throughout the year. Salazar was the first to organize races once the government lifted restrictions earlier in the year.
According to Salazar, runners who signed up include Christopher Broaster, Jaime Castellanos, and Marco Reyes, for the Men’s and Mirtha Welch, Martha Novelo, Roxana Lemus, and Lliani Ordonez for the Women’s race.
“We have participation from Heart & Sole, StoneFit Club, Lionman Fitness, Taiwan Embassy, Belize Bank, and the Westrac Jr Slick Runners to name a few,” said Salazar.
Medals will be awarded to the top three in each category. Plus all runners who finish will be awarded finishers medals. The event has three categories in both the men and women races: 24 and under, 25-39, and 40+.
Though the main event is a 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) race, Total Time is also having a 5K for children 10 years and younger.
The children will also get medals just like the adults.
The race starts and finishes at St Therese Primary School in Burrell Boom. It will run along the river toward the bridge, make a right turn on the Boom/Hattieville Road, another right turn into the village’s second entrance by Johnny Pond, keep on Y Ave to the end by Burrell Boom Methodist/Cell phone tower, and a final right turn to the finish line.
