Active cases of COVID-19 shoot close to 1,600; deaths pass 600 entering New Year

By Aaron Humes: COVID-19 is still with Belize in a big way as 2021 ticks down to 2022.

The last set of data for the year from the Ministry of Health and Wellness with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic shows 352 new cases reported in the last 24 hours against 22 recoveries.

Therefore, the number of active cases is 1,596 – nearly four times as many as last week. Another 254 samples are under investigation.

Belize has also passed 600 deaths in the pandemic with four new deaths reported today; the total is 602.

A total of 32,840 confirmed cases have been reported of which 30,604 patients have recovered.
