By Aaron Humes: Belize City continues to lead the daily COVID-19 tables with 133 new cases reported today.
But there are worrying increases in other parts of the country.
In the Belize District, 24 new cases were reported in Ladyville, 14 in San Pedro Town, and 8 in Caye Caulker – worrying for partygoers celebrating the New Year in those areas. Overall, the District reports 207 cases, 193 on the mainland and 14 in Ambergris.
In Cayo, 29 new cases were reported in Belmopan proper, the most that we can recall in a single day for the New Capital. There were a total of 15 new cases between San Ignacio (11) and Santa Elena (four) and six in Benque Viejo among the 69 new cases total in the district.
Up north, Corozal and Orange Walk Towns together added 21 new cases, 15 of those in the former. There were a total of 24 new cases in Corozal District and nine in Orange Walk District.
In the south, Stann Creek District added 35 new cases, 12 of those in Dangriga, 10 in Hopkins, and eight in Placencia. There were another eight new cases in the Toledo District, seven in Punta Gorda Town.
Belizeans are reminded to continue observing the public health regulations and avoid large parties and gatherings this holiday weekend.
