COVID-19 hospitalizations trend back down entering New Year

Posted: Friday, December 31, 2021. 5:57 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: On this last day of the Old Year, the number of persons hospitalized from COVID-19 has gone back down, a hopeful sign amid the uncertainty ahead.

Ten persons are now hospitalized with COVID-19 as of today, Friday, down four from Thursday.

Of these, four are unvaccinated; two are partially vaccinated, and four are fully vaccinated. Full vaccination as determined by the Ministry is having had both initial shots (or one of a Janssen vaccine) and had no or few side effects for at least two weeks.

Meanwhile, four persons among these nine are in the intensive care unit, same as Thursday.

One patient is unvaccinated, one is partially vaccinated and two are fully vaccinated.

Belizeans are reminded to get their vaccinations whether first or second dose or booster shots if they have both, as the vaccine remains the best chance of recovery from COVID depending on the level of infection and presence of risk factors for non-communicable diseases and other comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension.
