December 30 is busiest cruise ship day of 2021; 50 percent of visitors return

By Aaron Humes: A total of six cruise ships visited Belize on Thursday according to the Belize Tourism Board, making it the busiest day of the year.

A trio of Carnival Cruise Lines ships, the Pride, the Dream and the Breeze, along with the Celebrity Apex called at Belize City’s Fort Street Tourism Village, while Norwegian Cruise Line-owned Harvest Caye saw two, the Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Breakaway.

All told, some 14 thousand-plus passengers came ashore.

The Board reports that Belize will have recovered close to 50 percent of cruise ship visitors compared to pre-COVID figures. And despite new worries over COVID variants, the Board says, “Promising projections from cruise lines indicate that cruise operations should return to full capacity by the winter season of 2022.”

The Belize Tourism Board continues to work with cruise industry partners to ensure that all requisite health protocols are met and are improved as needed, to address concerns caused by the pandemic as the sector continues on its recovery path.
