By BBN Staff: A Ladyville man was fined in court this week after being busted with over 70 grams of marijuana.

Twenty-one-year-old Patrick Canelo appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and immediately pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of possession simplitica for 76 grams of marinjuana found in his yard during a search.

Senior Magistrate Ford accepted the plea for the lesser charge and imposed a fine of $800 plus a $5.00 cost of court, which Canelo has to pay by March 31, 2022 or spend 8 months in prison for defaulting.

Ladyville police say that on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, officers received a report of a wanted man being sighted and when they went to investigate they found Canelo who tried to dispose of a black plastic bag when he saw them. They approached him, informed him that they had seen him throw away the bag and then picked it up to find the marijuna inside. He was then taken to the Ladyville police station to be charged.
