Belize welcomes first baby girl born in 2022

By Benjamin Flowers: The Karl Heusner Memorial (KHMH) reported today that the first baby girl of 2022 was born this morning at the KHMH.

The baby girl named Shaya was born to mom Shala Smith around 10:30 a.m. She is also the second child born in at the KHMH for the new year.

The KHMH said that, as per tradition, a number of companies are putting together gift hampers to assist the mothers of the first children born in the new year.

The gifts, all products geared towards caring for new babies, notably do not include cereal based formula products, as the hospital promotes exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months after birth.

The date for the distribution of those hampers has not yet been announced.
