Police officer charged with wounding in Sunday altercation

By Aaron Humes: Police have announced the arrest and charge of Police officer Philip Garbutt, 34, on charges of wounding.

It stems from an altercation between the officer and one Edmund Perdomo at Shisha Bar in Belize City Sunday afternoon.

Police say Garbutt, who was on special duty at the establishment, and Perdomo got into an altercation that escalated and left Perdomo needing treatment in hospital.

The specific nature of the “hard talk” was not immediately clear.

The incident was captured on video and widely shared.

Garbutt also faces internal disciplinary charges as part of a Police investigation.
