Massive COVID-19 case load reported countrywide

By Aaron Humes: In what we are told may be a single-day record, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported 630 new cases of COVID-19 countrywide.

Measured against 56 recoveries, the active case load now stands at 2,714, well above the peak of the Delta variant in September and October of 2021. Another 483 samples are under investigation.

No new deaths were reported and Belize has now passed 34 thousand confirmed cases of the virus since March of 2020. The national infection rate is now above nine percent and percentage of recoveries down to 90 percent.

Previous peaks of the virus included November and December of 2020, the midst of the second wave when a high number of daily deaths were reported, and August to October of 2021 in the midst of the third wave, caused primarily by Delta.
