Alleged gang member challenges face-mask charge in court

Posted: Wednesday, January 5, 2022. 10:20 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Alleged gang member Ainsworth Keshawn Foreman, 25, pleaded not guilty to a face-mask violation in Belize City Magistrate Court on Wednesday and is challenging the offense.

Foreman, who is out on bail on a charge of being a member of a gang, appeared unrepresented in court before Magistrate Mannon Dennison where he was read a charge of failure to wear a face mask in public.

Police say officers met Foreman on his block on Sittee Street in Belize City on December 21, 2021, and ticketed him for not having on a face mask at the time. Foreman, however, has challenged police to prove their charge against him in court and the matter has been adjourned until March 8.

Foreman was arrested in 2021 during a police crackdown on gang members on the southside of Belize City but was later released on bail. Penalties for the face mask charge can range from $500 and carries a penalty of $10 for each day the fine is outstanding.
