By Aaron Humes: Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, believes he is one of the first Belizeans to have caught the Omicron variant of coronavirus over the Christmas holidays.
This morning while discussing the effect the new variant is expected to have on the security forces, he mentioned that he began having body aches and fatigue and suffered relatively mild symptoms along with his wife.
However, his 11-year-old son – too young for the Pfizer vaccine – caught a high fever that kept him abed for three days. The Minister is double-vaccinated and boosted.
Musa said he believes being vaccinated kept the symptoms milder than the Delta variant as he did not lose his sense of taste and smell as is common with previous variants of the disease.
He, therefore, urged those who have not been vaccinated to do so, and those who have not been boosted to go get it.
