By Aaron Humes: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) is sending thank yous to those involved in the signing of an Interim Commercial Agreement between the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association (BSCFA) and Belize Sugar Industries Limited/American Sugar Refinery (BSI/ASR).
Foremost among them are those two parties who as much as a month ago were far apart on the issue of even signing such an agreement, though the former had long insisted it was needed because of the protracted arguments between them.
The Government is commended for its key role in ensuring that both parties acted in good faith, which eventually led to the interim agreement, and the Police for keeping heads cool on the ground.
The Congress “implores BSCFA and BSI/ASR to continue to act in good faith once the negotiations get underway to finalize a new Commercial Agreement that will benefit all parties.”
