By Aaron Humes: Chairman of the Corozal Sugar Cane Producers Association (CSCPA) Vladimir Puck believes that he still has the support of the majority of members after zone elections last year – but he regrets it may not be until November before he can test it.
The “illegitimate” annual general meeting this Sunday notwithstanding, the CSCPA cannot meet to hold elections until November because that is what the by-laws say, though a special meeting could be called with signatures from 1/5 of the membership.
Puck said it was “news for me” that a petition had been circulated with 148 signatures to date, and said he wanted to see them and begin the process of validation.
As for the 34 members who Puck said were out of the Association after failing to re-register at the end of last season, they remain cane farmers and able to deliver but independent of the CSCPA.
Puck also clarified that only part of the board would be up for election according to its four zones as required by law.
