Carlos ‘Obeah’ Galvez dismissed from Border Management Agency

By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News has seen a standard letter of termination concerning Carlos “Obeah” Galvez of Punta Gorda Town, announcing his dismissal from the Border Management Agency.

It indicates that he is no longer authorized to conduct business on behalf of or sign and issue purchase orders for the Agency, such duties left to its accountant and chief financial manager respectively.

Galvez is a former Mayor of Punta Gorda Town who notably served as minority leader of a United Democratic Party-controlled Town Council from 2006 to 2009 and a reported close friend of Minister of Tourism himself Anthony Mahler.

But the sudden firing – and the implications of the letter – are that something serious was going on. However, none of the top persons in charge at the Agency nor at the Ministry were available as of this writing and we have left messages for them awaiting their responses.
