Nearly 600 confirmed COVID-19 cases to end week

By Aaron Humes: Belize’s first full week with what appears to be the Omicron variant of coronavirus has concluded with another day of nearly 600 new cases reported – 596, to be precise.

With just 39 persons reported recovered, the number of active cases has skyrocketed to 4,264 with 622 samples under investigation.

The daily positivity rate is 21.5 percent of 2,775 persons tested.

No new deaths have been reported but Belize has now passed 35 thousand and is approaching 36 thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The total positivity rate is 9.31 percent and the recovery rate is down to 86.3 percent.
