101,224 Belizean children have had their education impacted by the pandemic says Ministry of Education

“104,224 children across Belize have had their education impacted by this pandemic,” said the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology in a social media post as schools get ready to open for hybrid learning on Monday, January 10.

“The repercussions for every child, their family, our communities and our nation will be felt for years to come.”

According to the September 2021 statistics from the Statistical Institute of Belize, the country has 121,758 children under the age of 14. That’s 28.2% of a total population of 432,516.

As students and teachers get ready to open schools for hybrid learning on Monday, January 10, the Ministry of Education said it needs everyone’s help for the return to school to be successful.

“That’s why getting back to school safely is our Ministry’s top priority, but we cannot do this alone,” added MoECST.

“Do your part. Act responsibly. Follow health guidelines. Get vaccinated.”

The Ministry of Education along with the Ministry of Health and Wellness have been working together preparing for Monday.

“Together and safely, we will return beginning January 10th!”
