The Ministry of Health and Wellness’ (MOHW) COVID-19 Vaccination Daily Report for January 6, says that 200,453 are fully vaccinated. That’s 199 more than on January 5.

That represents 49.5% of Belize’s population of 404,915 that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) have been using up to now.

The number of persons who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine now stands at 211,304. That’s 52.18% of our total population. That number doesn’t include the 19,595 that had received the Janssen single-dose vaccine by January 5.

PAHO includes the Janssen total when referring to at least one dose, which would up the total (not counting how many got vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine between January 5 and January 6) to 230,899. The percentage then goes up to 57.02 which has Belize in second position of vaccinated people in Caricom, only behind Antigua and Barbuda and ahead of Barbados.

According to the MOHW, 29,722 persons in the 12-17-year-olds bracket have been vaccinated. That’s only six more than the day before. That number represents 7.3% of the country’s population.

In the 18-Years-and-older category, 309 persons got vaccinated from January 5 to January 6.

However, if we go by the population of 432,516 as per the Statistical Institute of Belize’s 2021 September estimate, the total of fully vaccinated drops to 46.35% and the total of persons with at least one dose falls to 53.39%. As to the total of 12-17 vaccinated, that drops to 6.9%.

Though no figures are forthcoming yet from the MOHW regarding the total number of people who have received a booster, their report to PAHO says that up to January 5, 18,249 persons had received a booster. That represents 4.5% of the 404,915.

Meanwhile, the MOHW keeps encouraging everyone to get vaccinated particularly now that schools are reopening. The MOHW is also advising Belizeans to get booster shots.
