Man remanded for pulling gun on minor despite mother’s request to drop charge

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man, Travis Navarro, 27, is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after allegedly pulling a gun on a minor despite a request from the boy’s mother to drop the charge.

Navarro appeared unrepresented in Belize City Magistrate’s Court before magistrate Sharon Fraser where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to the police report, Navarro allegedly pulled a gun on a minor on January 7 during an altercation. The boy’s mother appeared in court on her son’s behalf requesting the charge be dropped, however, she was told her son would need to be present in court to do so. She explained that he was at work and could not be present at the time.

Navarro was remanded to prison overnight and his case will be heard tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to follow up on the request to dismiss the charge.
