Belize sets unwanted one-day record for new COVID-19 cases

By Aaron Humes: As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues, another unwanted record was set today.

The 1,089 confirmed cases reported today by the Ministry of Health and Wellness are the most ever for a single day, easily breaking the record of 630 set just last week. 

While 321 persons are reported recovered, active cases have shot past 6 thousand to 6,088 with another 405 samples under investigation.

More than 393 thousand Belizeans and others have been tested including 3,644 in the last 24 hours and the daily positivity rate is a staggering 29.9 percent.

The overall positivity rate is 9.7 percent with 38,072 confirmed cases and 31,339 recoveries.

Deaths meanwhile remain at 607 with none reported today.
