Ex-Attorney General sets deadline for Superbond expense information

Posted: Tuesday, January 11, 2022. 7:56 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Former Attorney General and Senator Michael Peyrefitte has told Prime Minister John Briceño that if no explanation is provided for the US$15 million-dollar fees paid out for the Blue Bond legal processes by January 14 as he wrote to him in December, he would take the matter to the Ombudsman’s Office and the Supreme Court.

In a letter dated Monday, Peyrefitte said the country deserved to know and that the gathering of data was not rocket science.

He further intimated that there would be no choice to conclude Government was hiding something if it did not provide the information.

There was a response from the Prime Minister which we will cover separately.

Notably, Belize has been without an Ombudsman since Lionel Arzu stepped down last April.
