The Football Federation of Belize on Monday announced the kick-off of its National Elite Youth Championships in four categories (U-17 Men’s, U-17 Women’s, U-20 Men’s, and U-20 Women’s) on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
According to COVID-19 restrictions, the tournaments will be played without fans.
The Under-17 Men’s will feature ten teams. Group A comprises Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, Belize, and Belmopan. Group B is made up of Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo, Stann Creek, the Mid-South, and Toledo.
Five teams will play in the Under-17 Women’s, namely Corozal, Belize, Stann Creek, Toledo, and Belmopan.
The Under-20 Women’s has eight teams. Group A comprises Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, and Belize. Group B is made up of Belmopan, Cayo, Stann Creek, and Toledo.
Ten teams are competing in the Under-20 Men’s. Group A comprises Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, Belize, and Belmopan. Group B is made up of Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo, Stann Creek, the Mid-South, and Toledo.
The FFB said the tournaments will be played in single round robin format. The top four qualify to the semifinals which will be played home and away and the finals will be a single game.
The FFB said the “tournament organizers are working closely with team managements to ensure all COVID-19 laws and protocols are followed and reinforced to ensure the safety of all teams”.
The FFB thanked “the Ministry of Sports and E Governance and the Ministry of Health for partnering with the FFB to chart the way forward for the return of football in Belize”.
The FFB also thanked “all the teams for working closely with our directors to meet all necessary requirements to get competitions underway”.
