Posted: Tuesday, January 11, 2022. 10:19 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a family quarrel that turned violent and deadly earlier this morning in the South Stann Creek area.

According to police, one Amaya Salvador Rivas arrived at his estranged wife’s residence in San Roman, Stann Creek, and spent the night in the kitchen area adjoining the main house where his wife and their five children slept.

Around 4 a.m. this morning, Rivas allegedly forced his way into the adjoining house and confronted his son, 18, demanding the son’s cell phone and choking him. His elder sibling intervened and allegedly chopped his father with a machete, leaving head and body injuries.

Rivas’ body was later found in bushes elsewhere in the village.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled.
