The agreement between Russia and Belize that abolished tourist visas for their citizens traveling between the two countries is now in effect from Wednesday, January 12, 2022, said Russian news agency TASS.
Under the agreement Russian citizens can visit Belize and Belizean citizens can visit Russia without a tourist visa for up to 90 days during a 180 day period, counting from the date of their first entry.
The citizens from both countries would require a visa to stay for more than 90 days, to work, or to study or undergo training.
The agreement was signed on September 23, 2021, between Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov when both representatives were attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
TASS also reported that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Central American diplomats and discussed multilateral cooperation and other issues at the time.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed the intention to reach agreements to abolish visas with the entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Belize and Russia established diplomatic relations in 1991.
