By Aaron Humes: According to a general circular from the office of CEO for the Corozal Free Zone, Neri Ramirez, an on-site mass testing campaign conducted today produced 173 positive results of 1,002 persons tested across the Free Zone.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness performed the tests with rapid antigen and regular antigen formulas and will follow up with PCR tests based on the samples taken today. Additional testing will take place on Friday, January 14 for those not tested today.
Ramirez writes that the percentage testing positive, just over 17 percent, is below the average in relation to the country’s daily positivity rate at 25.1 percent.
Additionally, 422 persons were vaccinated and boosted.
According to Ramirez, the Ministry of Health and Wellness advised that all persons who were reactive to SARS-CoV-2 today will be treated as positive until further investigated by the Ministry. Social Security claims will be provided after the completion of the seven (7) day quarantine as recommended.
Ramirez noted that the mass result has not triggered any plans to close the Zone even temporarily although stores and offices will certainly be affected.
No breakdown was provided on how many of those who tested positive are workers or owners of businesses in the Zone.
