By Aaron Humes: 878 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, not far from Tuesday’s record 1,089.
421 new recoveries were also reported and this kept the daily increase lower than in recent days.
Still, Belize now has 6,545 active cases of COVID-19, more than at any point in the pandemic and four times the amount reported just a few weeks ago. The previous high of cases was 4,832 on December 16, 2020, before a change in the reporting of recoveries saw a sharp fall. Another 498 samples are under investigation.
Meanwhile, no new deaths have been reported, keeping that figure at 607 to date and five so far in the month of January.
