By BBN Staff: When 46-year-old San Pedro resident Gregory Parks appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wendesday, it was for a drug-related offense; however, several unpaid fines for COVID-19 regulation violations landed him in prison.
Police said that on Monday, Parks was spotted by a mobile patrol trying to dispose of an item that was later discovered to be a pipe used for smoking crack cocaine. He was taken to Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was denied bail and that matter was adjourned for February 24, 2022.
During the case, Parks’s court records showed that he owed the court the sum of $5, 510 over two previous convictions for State of Emergency violations. Parks owed the court $5,005.00 for a breach of curfew back in April of 2020, and $500 for another breach of curfew offense back in June of 2020.
He was sentenced to prison for two years over the unpaid fines.
