By Aaron Humes: Belize still has more than 346 thousand vaccine doses as the national vaccination program against COVID-19 has slowed down.
In its first weekly Cabinet briefing for 2022, the Executive announces that it was informed by the (new) Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard that new vaccination sites will be set up in communities in the north, west, and south of the country to provide better access to vaccines in rural communities.
More than 21 thousand booster shots have been issued since the start of the booster program, which is open to those fully vaccinated for three months or more.
Belize has passed 200 thousand fully vaccinated, 46.7 percent of the total population, and more than 211 thousand or nearly 50 percent partially vaccinated, including 23,817 Belizeans aged 12 to 17 years old.
In the wake of the rising number of COVID-19 infections and the presence of the highly contagious Omicron variant, Cabinet continues to encourage the public to wear masks in public, maintain physical distance, wash hands regularly, and for those not fully vaccinated, to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
There is no word on any changes to current COVID-19-related public health regulations, which were set to expire this month.
