American man claims COVID-19 shortened his penis- Doctors say it’s possible

By Benjamin Flowers: An American man in his 30’s is claiming that his penis shortened by over an inch after recovering from COVID-19 infection; a condition that some doctors are saying is rare but possible, reports the New York Post.

The man wrote anonymously to Slate.com’s “How to do it” podcast, which covers a wide range of topics of a sexual nature. The man, identified only as “Coming Up Short” explained that he contracted the virus in July of 2020, and following his recovery, he noticed that his penis was an inch and a half shorter than it was prior to infection. He said that he immediately sought medical advice and was told that the rare condition was due to “vascular damage” and was warned that the reduction might be permanent.

After the host read his letter, Dr. Charles Welliver, a urologist, and Director of Men’s Health at Albany Medical College, New York, joined the conversation to confirm that the condition is one of several penis problems men who have contracted COVID-19 have suffered with and went on to cite studies showing that other conditions include priapism (persistent erections without sexual arousal), and erectile dysfunction (ED).

Dr. Ashley Winter, a urologist in Oregon, would later join the conversation, further confirming that penis reduction due to COVID-19 is a real possibility.

“The main reason that we think this occurs is something what we call endothelial dysfunction,” she explained. “That’s basically the cells that line your blood vessels … and they’re really important for the function of many different organs.”

Unlike the first physician, Dr. Winter believes that conditions affecting the penis stemming from COVID-19 can be treated. Dr. Winter listed several treatment options such as medication, certain exercises, and a device called RestoreX which can stretch the penis to regain some lost length.
