Health Minister Kevin Bernard confirms curfew will be extended, 50 percent capacity for sporting competitions being considered

Posted: Friday, January 14, 2022. 10:25 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: New Minister of Health Kevin Bernard confirmed to reporters that the curfew under public health regulations will be extended for at least another month.

That means Belizeans must be inside their homes by 11 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays and by midnight on Friday and Saturdays.

And while the curfew – which has been in place almost since the start of the pandemic – does not do much to deter crime, the government feels it is helping in the COVID area – albeit barely.

All other regulations remain the same except for a change which the former Minister of Sports said he has long been lobbying for: opening up capacity for sporting competitions to 50 percent subject to vaccination and six feet social distancing.

Bernard said that the matter is officially under review and he will meet with the Ministry’s technical team to hear their concerns and recommendations before taking it to Cabinet.
