Apart from testing for COVID-19 at the Corozal Free Zone (CFZ) where 173 COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday when 1,002 persons were tested, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is today also administering COVID-19 boosters there.

CFZ Chief Executive Officer Neri Ramirez said the entire CFZ population is vaccinated.

“We have 100% vaccination in the Corozal Free Zone. All of them have been fully vaccinated and over 600 have received a booster,” said Ramirez.

“Our team is on the ground there. We are doing testing and we are doing vaccination,” said Minister of Enterprise Jose Abelardo Mai under whose portfolio the Corozal Free Zone falls.

“Everybody has two doses of vaccines, so the booster right now is what we’re working on. At the end of Wednesday, we had 422 to 430, I think, people given booster shots. We will continue issuing booster shots today also.”

Mai said that everyone in the country should get vaccinated and if they already are, he encouraged everyone to get a booster.

“I just want to advise everybody that this virus is now spreading wildly across the country. Not only in Belize but across the world, in neighboring Mexico and Guatemala. So, I encourage everybody to vaccinate themselves if they are not, to wear masks, wherever possible to sanitize, to practice all the measures so we can try to curb the incidence of COVID-19,” Minister Mai said.
