By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Albert Davis of Belize City captured first place in the Celebrating Father of the Nation 8K Run held in honour of the late Prime Minister, George Price, in Belmopan on Saturday morning.
Running independently, Davis completed the 8-kilometer race in 27 minutes and 53.5 seconds, according to Ricardo Salazar of Total Time Belize.
Mauro Cucul of Big Falls, Toledo, gave Davis a good run for his money, running 0.5 of a second behind securing second place in 27:54.0.
BLV’s Jaheim Moguel of San Ignacio was third completing the race in 32:32.5. Right behind him, Kliuvert Cal of Punta Gorda clocked 32:40.4 to take the fourth spot.
A second Big Falls runner, Donald Coh was fifth running the 8K in 32:57.2.
Christopher Broaster of the Belize Track Club finished sixth in 33:41.4 while Westrac Slick Runners’ Victor Rauda took seventh in 33:56.8. His teammate Victor Figueroa was next in eighth in 34:41.7.
Ninth place was taken by Edgar Alvarez of Juiciness in 34:51.2.
Juan Santos of Splash/Team for Conservation rounded off the top ten in 36:29.5.
Of note, nine-year-old Alex Guydis ran his first 8-kilometer race finishing 30th.
All 37 runners completed the Men’s Category. Five who signed up did not compete.
Belmopan City Councilor Sanie Cal, in partnership with the National Sports Council, organized the 8K Run which started and finished at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
