Ana López wins Father of the Nation 8K Run in Belmopan

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Ana López won the Celebrating Father of the Nation 8K Run held in honour of the late Prime Minister George Price in Belmopan on Saturday morning.

Running for Team Splash, Lopez, who is from Esperanza, took first place in 35 minutes and 13.1 seconds.

Georgette Mink of Team Natawihowin from Benque Viejo del Carmen was second in 37:04.7.

Westrac Slick Runners’ Irene Thiessen was third in 40:22.1. Climax Fitness’ Jayda Brown finished fourth in 41:44.8, while Evelyn Zuleta of Westrac Ltd ran in fifth in 41:57.4.

Splash’s Rossy Guardado was sixth in 42:39.1, Mirtha Welch of the Roaring Creek Vet Clinic team was seventh in 44:33.2, Chickie Espat of Hill Treaders was eighth in 46:52.6. Ninth place belonged to Owsley’s Meghan Owsley in 47:47.0, and tenth to Juiciness’ Diana Arias who clocked 48:28.1.

Of note, two children competed doing their first 8K: six-year-old Solange Mangandid finished 18th and five-year-old Rosalia Ayala finished 24th.

All 31 participants completed the Women’s Category. Four who had signed up did not compete.

Belmopan City Councilor Sanie Cal, in partnership with the National Sports Council, organized the 8K Run which started and finished at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
