Three Under-10 children compete in Father of the Nation 8K Run in Belmopan

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Three children under the age of ten competed in the Celebrating Father of the Nation 8K Run in Belmopan and held their own.

Nine-year-old Alex Guydis ran his first 8-kilometer race finishing 30th in one hour, one minute, and 6.9 seconds. Guydis had a better time than seven of the older guys.

In the women’s category, two girls challenged the field as well in their first-ever eight-kilometer race.

Six-year-old Solange Mangandid finished 18th and five-year-old Rosalia Ayala was 24th. Mangandid finished the race in one hour, two minutes, and 28.2 seconds while Ayala did so in one hour, 14 minutes, and 23.8 seconds. 31 participants competed in the Women’s Category meaning Magandid did better than 12 runners older than her while Ayala bested seven runners.

Albert Davis of Belize City captured first place in the Men’s Category in 27 minutes and 53.5 seconds while Ana López won the Women’s Category in 35 minutes and 13.1 seconds.
