Belize’s Great Blue Hole named among best underwater caves to explore by US-based travel site

By Benjamin Flowers: United States based travel site “The Travel” is encouraging travelers looking for the ultimate diving experience to check out Belize’s Great Blue Hole as one of the “The World’s 10 Best Underwater Caves To Explore.”

The article, published today, lists the Great Blue Hole as third on the list with an 8/10 rating. The Great Blue Hole was beaten out only by the Cenote Dos Ojos, Mexico (9/10), and The Grotto in Cyprus Lake, Tobermory Bruce Peninsula, Canada (10/10).

“When it comes to intriguing sinkholes worldwide, the Great Blue Hole is one of the seven wonders. Great Blue Hole is a giant sinkhole located off the coast of Belize that forms part of a reef system and is a popular diving destination for divers who are drawn by turquoise waters and the possibility of seeing both fish and sharks. This fantastic cave is roughly 125 meters deep and is dubbed the world’s largest undersea cave,” The Travel said.

The positive mention of the Great Blue Hole adds to an already increasing amount of international highlights for Belize in the new year. The Caribbean Tourism Association recently issued a statement saying that it remains optimistic that tourism in the region will rebound, following the global travel shutdown of 2020 and in spite of the uncertainty currently being caused by the COVID-19 omicron variant. The CTO estimates that visitor arrivals at the end of 2021 between 60 and 70 percent of what they were in 2020, which makes marketing to attract travelers an essential part of any country’s recovery efforts for its tourism sector.
