Verdes’ Norman Anderson contracts COVID-19, replaced by Altitude’s Allan Barillas on Belize Men’s National Football Team

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes’ Norman Anderson has contracted COVID-19, and is being replaced by Altitude’s Allan Barillas on the Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT).

The Verdes defender tested positive this morning as he reported to the BMNT training camp at the FFB Headquarters in Belmopan where the national team is preparing for a friendly international triangular against Guatemala and Nicaragua next week in Managua.

Anderson said he is asymptomatic and is in isolation at home.

“I’m back home with my family,” Anderson said. “No flu-like symptoms, no loss of taste, no muscle pain, nothing like that.”

The FFB’s Technical Director Philip Marin said Altitude’s Barillas will take Anderson’s place in the BMNT.

“He’s a good young player,” Anderson said of Barillas.

Another Altitude midfielder, Luis ‘Baca’ Torres was also called to replace Angelo Cappello of Sheffield United who couldn’t travel to join the Belize Men’s Football National Team for its international triangular in Nicaragua.

The BMNT is travelling to Managua next week Wednesday, January 26, to compete in the triangular. The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) said the BMNT will face Guatemala at 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 29 and will take on Nicaragua on Tuesday, February 1.

The FFB said it is activating the BMNT to start training for the CONCACAF Nations League which will be played in June.
