Green Climate Fund to support key organizations in obtaining climate finance

By Aaron Humes: A project valued at nearly 1 million Euros will support a Community of Practice for Direct Access Entities (CPDAE) to access climate finance and implement adaptation and mitigation programs and projects.

The project titled “Strengthening the capacity of Direct Access Entities through the Community of Practice for Direct Access Entities (CPDAE)” will support national implementing entities and direct access entities in complementing the coherence between the Adaptation Fund (AF) and the Green Climate Fund in countries from Argentina to Togo. Belize’s members include The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), accredited as Belize’s AF National Implementing Entity and Belize’s first GCF Direct Access Entity; Development Finance Corporation, Belize Social Investment Fund, and the Ministry of Economic Development.

These will benefit from capacity building for project designs, project development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, etc. These entities are important since they promote country ownership, the understanding of national priorities, and contribution towards low emissions and climate-resilient development pathways.

Additionally, the readiness grant will address the gaps related to the CPDAE governance framework, communication, and outreach mechanisms, and the lack of a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework to further improve its engagement with its membership.
