By Benjamin Flowers: This week, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) continues to support Belize’s national response against COVID-19 through donations of equipment that is essential in the fight against the virus.
The Embassy also recently handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s Central Health Region, which was received by Acting Regional Manager Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa.
The Embassy explained today that as Belize faces its fourth wave of COVID-19, due to variants such as delta and omicron, the protection of frontline health workers has become even more important to overall public health and safety. The Embassy said it decided to make the donations to the Central Health Region because most of the COVID tests are done there, and to the KHMH as most hospitalized COVID patients end up there.
“Since the virus knows no borders, no one can fight against the virus alone. Taiwan has been standing firm with Belize in the fight against COVID-19 from the outbreak of the pandemic, not only handing over funds, but also providing medical equipment and PPEs such as surgical masks, thermometers, ventilators, PCR test kits, rapid tests, nasal swabs, and so on, for safeguarding the safety and health of Belizean doctors, nurses and laboratory staff,” the Taiwanese Embassy said in a statement issued today.
The Embassy also emphasized the Taiwanese government’s commitment to collaboration with a view to strengthen health systems both in Belize and Taiwan and called upon everyone in Belize to continue adhering to the protocols set in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
