Government of Belize congratulates Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley on sweeping election victory

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2022. 3:08 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Government of Belize offered its congratulations to Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and her Barbados Labour Party (BLP) for its dominating victory in the country’s general elections held this week.

“Belize conveys its congratulations to PM Mia Mottley and the BLP on their resounding victory at the polls yesterday! We have watched, with deep admiration, as PM Mottley has distinguished herself as a true champion of the Caribbean on the world stage,” GOB said via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade’s official Twitter account.

Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party won a grand slam victory at the general elections, officially called today, taking all 30 available seats.

Apart from congratulations sent as an individual nation, Belize joined the regional integration body Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as its members collectively applauded the decisive victory.

With the scathing defeat of the Democratic Labour Party at the polls, Barbados will not have an official opposition for the next five years.
