More traffic enforcement approved to reduce road accidents

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2022. 10:16 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Transport has approval to increase the Department of Transport Enforcement Unit by increasing the number of enforcement officers and the vehicle fleet that patrol all highways in Belize.

This is in response to an upsurge in traffic accidents on the nation’s major roads and highways in recent months.

The Police Department has reorganized its traffic and highway patrol units to coordinate management of the roads and highways.

In the last month and a half or so, upwards of 10 lives have been taken by motor vehicle accidents, often caused by reckless driving, speeding, intoxication and impairment and similar issues.
