Police believe Septimus Ritchie knew his killer

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2022. 1:14 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Investigators of the Belize Police Department believe that 35-year-old Septimus Ritchie, who was shot and killed in Belize City last night, knew the man that killed him.

Ritchie, a customer care agent, was working from home last night when his killer went to his window and fired a single shot that hit him in the head.

Today Director of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that officers have been in the area since the incident happened, gathering information, and that info is what lead to the conclusion.

“This was a direct target. The person that went to do this had to know that he was in that certain position at that time. We believe that he knew his assailant,” Yearwood said.

He went on to say that officers are reviewing surveillance footage from a camera in the area but also canvassing to see if there are others who have surveillance footage that may be of use.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to report it by calling 922 or the nearest police station.
