By Benjamin Flowers: Prime Minister John Briceño maintains his position of no confidence in former Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero but says that he is willing to trust the judgment of new Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard, who wants Manzanero back at the Ministry.

Speaking this week to Channel 7, Briceño, who had previously categorized Manzanero’s leadership of the national COVID-19 response as “a disaster” held the view that Manzanero is unfit to lead in that regard.

“I believe and I said that this morning and I repeat that I do think that there are certain skills that Dr. Manzanero has, I just don’t think that he was the right person for the DHS position, but where they want to put him, I think it’s something to do with cooperation and some other work,” Briceño said. ” Kevin believes that he can work with him and have him become a part of his team and if that is the wishes of the minister, then I am going to support it.”

Briceño noted that the position Minister Bernard has lined up for Manzanero is one previously offered to him in the early onset of the new administration, a position that, at that time, Manzanero had refused.

Last week, Minister Bernard said that he feels Manzanero still has a place at the ministry and wants to move past the issues encountered in the early stages of the administration when the Ministry was under the leadership of Michel Chebat. Bernard said that he was preparing to meet with Manzanero to discuss his return to the ministry after he was removed from his position while on sick leave, recovering from COVID-19.

The outcome of that meeting remains to be seen.
