Charges against Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber struck out in court this afternoon

By Benjamin Flowers: Despite the public fallout, Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber is a free man, after his fiancé, Dr. Shanika Arnold recanted her complaint of domestic violence against him.

Faber appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this afternoon along with his attorneys Orson Elrington and Dickie Bradley. Faber’s court session was closed, but we have confirmed that, in court, Arnold took the stand and requested no further action against him. With that, the crown no longer had a case against Faber and he was free to go.

Outside the courtroom, Faber said that he was never in hiding, contrary to reports made in the media and that he never received any indication from law enforcement to say that he was wanted.

Faber went on to say that the situation is a difficult one that he and Dr. Arnold have been battling for some time, but that he will refrain from making any further comment on the issue for the sake of his relationship with Dr. Arnold.

“As I said in my statement and she said in hers, we don’t want any further public scrutiny. Not for me because I signed up for this life of politics, and you know that there is nothing left to be said that has not been said negatively about me and you know my skin is very very thick. But in terms of protecting her and making sure that she is in optimal health and that the public scrutiny against her has stopped, I will not go any further.”

Dr. Arnold reportedly went to the Queen Street Police Station on Tuesday to make a domestic violence complaint about Faber on Tuesday but later said in writing that she did not want any further action taken against him. In her public statement, she stressed that the situation was a private matter that she wished to settle with her fiance.
