By Aaron Humes: Further to our story of Wednesday, January 19 concerning Councilor Micah Goodin and $5,000 yet to be accounted for as part of the budget approved for the Christmas Cup football tournament held in December, Goodin has indicated that he can and will account for how the money was spent.
According to Goodin as explained to Channel 7 News, the Council approved the budget for the tournament in October, “however since then we have not had the opportunity to meet or I would already shared a report on how those monies were spent.” He says the Council did not meet in December and a meeting that should have been held on Tuesday of this week was postponed.
The Council meets monthly according to Goodin, so as he told Channel 7, “I’m hoping that by February at the next sitting of the Council, I can brief my colleagues and report to the Council exactly how these monies were spent because I have in my possession the budget and I have supporting documents to show I have nothing to hide and every cent is properly accounted for.”
Goodin did not respond to our telephone calls prior to, and after, the initial story and did not reply to our request to provide a response to confirm if the additional $5,000 was accounted for. In addition, Breaking Belize News (BBN) did confirm that up to the writing of our previous article, the balance of $5,000 had not yet been accounted for with the finance department at the City Council.
