By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Caribbean Rum Boyz are set to battle Guinea Grass for the Orange Walk FA 1st Division championship in the district final at the Louisiana Government School Football Field.

The match is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 23.

Last Sunday, Caribbean Rum Boyz qualified to the final with ease after whipping Yo Creek La Ceiba 6-1.

Richard Gillett recorded a brace in the 38th and 40th minutes, while Russel Cassanova (14’), Irvin Osorio (44’), Camilo Sanchez (53’), and Ricky Valdez’s (72’ penalty kick) each struck one.

Edimir Carillo scored Yo Creek’s only goal in the 70th minute.

Guinea Grass struggled but managed to drop defending champions Progresso 4-2 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw last Sundayas well.

Coming from behind after a 14th-minute spectacular opener by Dedron Baptist, Guinea Grass leveled the score on a goal by Francisco Rivas in the 27th. No more goals were forthcoming forcing the shootout.

Brian Westby, Leonardo Can, Miguel Yco, and Charles Tillett converted their penalty kicks for Guinea Grass. Only Jaheim Augustine and Tyriq “Hammer” Ciego found the net for Progresso.

Today one of the two will celebrate and the other will cry.
